How Choghadiya is Calculated
Choghadiya is a traditional Vedic time-division system that splits daytime and nighttime into eight equal segments each. Used extensively in Western and Northern India, it offers immediate guidance on auspicious windows for travel, trade, and ceremonies.
The time between local sunrise and sunset (day duration) is divided into 8 equal parts. Similarly, the time between sunset and the next sunrise (night duration) is divided into 8 parts.
There are 7 unique Choghadiyas: Udveg (Sun), Chara (Venus), Labha (Mercury), Amrita (Moon), Kala (Saturn), Shubha (Jupiter), and Roga (Mars). The 8th slot repeats the first slot of the cycle.

Auspicious vs Inauspicious Choghadiyas
Amrita, Shubha, and Labha are prime auspicious periods (good for any work). Chara is suitable for travel and motion. Udveg, Kala, and Roga are inauspicious and should be avoided for auspicious work.
Day vs Night Sequence
The day Choghadiya starts with the lord of the weekday. The night Choghadiya follows a classical sequence starting with the 5th planetary lord from the day lord.
Best Uses for Choghadiya
Choghadiya is especially valuable for timely everyday decisions—such as commencing journeys, buying vehicles, inaugurating shops, or conducting monetary transactions.
