How I Calculate Birth Panchang

Swiss Ephemeris + Lahiri Ayanamsha

Panchang, meaning five limbs of time (Pancha Anga), forms the foundation of Vedic astrology. Your Janma Panchang captures the precise celestial state of Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, and Vara at the moment of your birth.

The calculation engine derives Sun and Moon longitudes at your birth moment using Swiss Ephemeris under Lahiri Ayanamsa.

Local Sunrise and Sunset times are computed geometrically using topocentric coordinates. In Vedic tradition, the astronomical day (Vara) begins at local Sunrise. If birth occurs before sunrise, the Vedic weekday is calculated as the preceding day.

Tithi represents the 12-degree elongation of the Moon from the Sun. Yoga reflects the sum of solar and lunar longitudes divided into 27 equal parts. Karana is a half-tithi (6 degrees). Nakshatra divides the 360-degree zodiac into 27 equal lunar mansions of 13 degrees 20 minutes each.

The 5 Pillars of Janma Panchang

Each of the five limbs corresponds to an elemental cosmic principle: Tithi (Water/Jala), Nakshatra (Air/Vayu), Yoga (Ether/Akasha), Karana (Earth/Prithvi), and Vara (Fire/Agni).

Vedic Sunrise Day Boundary Rule

Unlike the Gregorian midnight-to-midnight system, Vedic astrology counts the day from sunrise to the next sunrise. A birth at 4:00 AM before a 6:15 AM sunrise inherits the ruler and spiritual qualities of the previous day.

Harmonizing with Birth Muhurtas

Understanding your birth Muhurtas reveals whether you were born during auspicious solar periods like Abhijit Muhurat or intense shadow periods like Rahu Kaal.
