How I Calculate Moon Phase
The phase of the Moon at the moment of your birth reflects the ambient cosmic luminescence and emotional archetype of your natal chart. Discover your exact lunar illumination percentage, canonical phase, and corresponding Vedic Tithi.
The calculation engine derives the sidereal longitudes of the Sun and Moon at your birth date and time using Swiss Ephemeris under Lahiri Ayanamsa.
The lunar elongation is calculated as the difference between the Moon longitude and the Sun longitude modulo 360 degrees. The illuminated fraction of the Moon disk is computed via the astronomical formula (1 - cos(elongation)) / 2 multiplied by 100.
The result is mapped into the eight canonical lunar phases and paired with its corresponding Vedic Tithi and Paksha (Shukla waxing or Krishna waning).
