How I Calculate Navamsa (D9) Charts
The Navamsa (D9) chart is the most revered divisional chart in Vedic astrology. By dividing each zodiac sign into nine equal segments of 3 degrees 20 minutes, it reveals the latent strength of planets, life purpose, and relationship harmony.
The calculation engine derives sidereal ecliptic longitudes via Swiss Ephemeris under Lahiri Ayanamsa.
Each 30-degree sign is divided into 9 Navamsas (3 degrees 20 minutes each). For Movable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), the division starts from the sign itself. For Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), it starts from the 9th sign from itself. For Dual signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces), it starts from the 5th sign from itself.
A planet occupying the same zodiac sign in both D1 (Rashi) and D9 (Navamsa) charts is classified as Vargottama, indicating enhanced strength and stability.
